Howdy all, it’s been a sickeningly hot week. The office has been really busy with MarketMeTweet stuff so the weekend is a welcome break.
In this post, I’m going to show you how easy it is to add a professional finish to a site by adding a homescreen icon for a users iPhone, iTouch or iPad to download if they deem your page awesome enough to grace their device permanently. It’s dead easy.
Firstly, get yourself into your image editor of choice and create a fancy 57 x 57 PNG file of your choice. Here’s one I made for Wuup:
![]()
Name this file ‘apple-touch-icon.png’
Now, grab your ftp details and go into your site’s directory and dump this file in the web documents root folder – usually called ‘httpdocs’ or ‘htdocs’ etc.
Now, the cool part…
Visit your site on your device (mine’s an iPod Touch) and hit the wee cross at the bottom of the Safari browser:

Bash ‘Add To Home Screen’
Then allow your wee device to work it’s magic, as safari automatically applies that lovely glass effect to allow your homebrew handiwork to fit snugly against other rounded cornered icons. Success!

Hope this comes in handy if you’re looking to polish a site you’re perhaps gearing towards a mobile audience. In the words of the great deth metal rocker Neil Buchanan…try it yourself!
