An Undisclosed Number of Ways to Annoy Others on Twitter

Hey all, yes I’m obsessed with twitter. I think its great. It’s grand, its lovely, yes yes yes, I’m sad… I know, ok now I’m crying. Really? No! I’m not crying I just wanted to lead you into a false sense of security so that I could attack you from the shadows. All of this tomfoolery aside. Twitter is a great tool.

Originally when I started using twitter I didn’t really get it. It seemed like a pointless idea and a great way for people who wear trench coats and stalk celebrities to get their fix without leaving their small dark dingy apartments on a cold wintery windy night looking through the gates just hoping to catch a glimpse of… oh wait, I’m doing it again. I got thinking recently, what annoy’s me personally on twitter. What would I block or report you as spam for.

1. Automatic Direct Messages

Yes, for me this is a big no no. If I follow you, I know I have followed you, why would I want a message from you directly to tell me what I already know has just occurred. It’s spammy, and too many people are doing it now – really gets on my nerves for sure. I’m not sure what tools people are using to do that, but its very irritating. So yes, anyone who I follow and this happens, gets an instant block…

The same goes for the periodic direct messages, where every often you get one through, usually a link to their website. How about this. I DONT CARE!! GO AWAY!!! I don’t want a free report, I don’t want to view your website when you tell me to, and I DONT WANT YOUR DIRECT MESSAGE!

2. Tweeting about celebrities

This just a pet hate for me, I have no care for celebrities of any kind, there are only very few celebrities I like, namely Patrick Stewart and Sean Connery, but even then, although I would turn gay and marry them, I still would not tweet about it. Its insignificant to me, and people feel the need to tweet about when there favourite pop band splits up, or when Miley cyrus deletes her twitter account. Who cares? I don’t…

3. Twitterfeed Links

I swear that is one the most commonly seen twitter apps in existence. It just tweets feeds from places, over and over and over. I’m not sure if twitter see’s it as spam, but I see it so much. Anyone’s who account I visit and has nothing but links in for whatever reason, gets blocked and marked as spam. 1 or 2 links, hell even 3 or 4 links once in a while is fine, but not every single tweet, having links in every single one…. GRRR BLOCKED!

4. Competitions

Competition’s which block up the trending with crap, noticeably it was MoonFruit who were giving away an iMac which got on my nerves, because then everyone I knew was doing it… What is the point, you’re not going to win and you just become irritating. Twitter competitions, no…no. NOOOO!

5. Constantly asking for Google Wave Invites

Obviously this is current, and in a few months time this wont make sense, but as a snap shot of history. Imagine this, you are on Twitter, and everyone won’t STFU up Google Wave, I have my invitation HA! – and it’s not all that its meant to be (yet), and so constantly going on about it on twitter wont get you an invite any faster, in fact, at this point, don’t bother getting one.
