Ok the article title may be some-what misleading, and the only reason I called it what I did is because I watched 28 Days later on Film 4 last night till 2am this morning – and when I started writing this article I could only think about the part where the army guys have their recording saying “salvation is here, we have the answer to infection”. Basically, this lead me on to put the article title as it is.
P.S I love that film and did you know the shots of London empty were done really early in the morning and with some clever angles
Anyway, so I’ve been thinking about blogging today and that if someone is a talented writer, or not even that talented, passionate is probably a better word, and you can come up with lots of content, you got yourself a blog. Once you blog about stuff for long enough you get traffic, from google, from back links and word of mouth if your articles are in that way provocative. Once you get lots of visitors you tend to get more comments, more re-tweets, and in turn your authority goes up and people either start coming back, or generally talking about you and want to know what you have to say. In fact I will wager that if you blog about any topic long enough you will start to gain authority.
Blogging is everyones answer to earning money from the internet?
Maybe so, it depends. I’ve seen it time and time again that people start blogging, often start off really well, posting everyday, then posting every day turns to once a week, then posting once a week turns to posting once a month, and then to every 3 months to not at all. Then when your latest article has the date of last year people start to ignore you. Traffic starts to take a nose dive then everything goes down hill, and like I say, I’ve seen it over and over again. Why? I don’t know. It’s probably because people get to lazy to continue with something that would ultimately eventually start making them money in one form or another – But I guess its because blogging can take its time. If your starting from nothing, your not likely to get more than 10 – 20 visitors a day for the first 6 months (unless one of your articles goes viral or something). However traffic should ultimately do nothing but go up, it should never go down. If it does go down you’ve buggered something up on your end. Some of your older more popular articles will gain authority as people link to them, and will be forever bringing in a base of traffic that you can only add to.
Blogging Numbers Game

Think of it this way, if you wrote 100 articles about 100 different topics, your likely to get 1 person finding this article per month for the life of the website. So thats 100 people per month, 1200 people per year. Now some articles will pull in more than 1 person
per month, some a lot more depending on if you strike a nerve, or get a good
ranking positon in Google. So your 10 of your 100 articles might bring in 20 people per month instead, and so you can see how if you continually write good content about things you are interested in, or other people are interested in, then you will get more traffic. FACT.
How Can a Blog Make Money?
In this instance, this blog is tied in with my web design and development business, so from blogging I can find new clients etc. But blogs can make money in all sorts of ways. Traffic = Money. It’s a simple and very true equation. If you get lots of people visit, then people will want to advertise on your website so they can sell their products too. Some people have been known to write sponsored articles, its a tricky route, we did it once, don’t really fancy doing it again to be honest, but some people do it. Affiliate marketing, some affiliates will pay money when one of your visitors signs up for their product, resulting in a commission.

Now the other obvious, or maybe less obvious way is just the simple fact that you have gained authority in your field. People may want your services or consultancy due to you being an expert in your field.
Article Ideas & Inspiration
I think this is how people fail sometimes to take their blog beyond 6 months old. It’s probably because they might burn themselves out with all their best ideas very quickly so pacing yourself isn’t a bad idea either.
Now if your on twitter, or even not on twitter it doesn’t matter, but its a good idea to take a look at the trending topics on there, when one comes up that relevant to your niche or blog genre – take advantage of peoples interest and write about it. You can then write about it, tweet about it with the right hash tag and instantly get traffic from people who are interested in the trending topic.

You can do the same thing with news, I won’t spoon feed it to you but take a look at Google news for ideas.
Look at other blogs which you in turn follow and respect. They might give you some inspiration, and sometimes they will write things you don’t agree with so write a counter argument to their point. Comment on other blogs which then their users might click through.
So yeah, thats my thoughts on blogging.

Alan that was one of your best articles. Very few people are willing to lay it out there: “here is how u make money”. So tired of gurus and get rich quick. Your obvious integrity shows and I hopemore people read and understand this
. Or risk being eaten by the “full of crap” zombies (yeah ok that was bad)
Haha, full of crap zombies, yeah
there are so many and they will eat your integrity and tea bag your soul
Hi there,
Thanks
