http://www.cuil.com/ - made by Anna Patterson, and this time its not for sale! Last time Google thought it was so impressive they used it to upgrade their own systems.
Anyway, the latest invesntion Cuil, pronounced ‘cool’ which already gets the thumbs up from us for having an awesome name. It was made by 2 other ex-google engineers the wonderful Russel Power and Louis Monier, with the aim of making a better search engine.
Well Cuil already is impressing us, it boasts a 120 billion Web Page index, and as far as I know, thats the most of any search engine! - and also it uses far less hardware to do the job.
Results are displayed differently to the traditional search engines, instead of stacking the results, they are shown in a magazine style, more images are horizontal in the page.
Though with all the hype, or perhaps they aint that great! This is what I get quite often when trying to search:
Though I like the idea of a new kid on the block, when we question our searching habbits will it really steer us way from waht we already know? Well now, probably not, but get a enough following and some important people telling us its good, it could well take off, and I think that formula would apply to anyone else.
Also, we might just get bored, Google is boring, and the logo sucks!
Well have fun, welcome to Cuil

It’s sad to think how much of a grip Google has over the internet. Although it is a bloody good search engine, no doubts about that. Any new kids on the block are pretty much screwed unless they think of a way to get up to Google level without having pots of money.
