Google Chrome finally decided to show its face around these parts, and by these parts I mean my Mac, and by face. I mean that it now works for Mac instead of being only for Windows.
All of this tomfoolery aside, it’s about bloody time that Google Chrome made a re-appearance after they’re orignal release for Mac which they quickly pulled because it didn’t actually work properly, and that was some months ago!
So with its ‘pokemon’eske / eye logo in the lovely google colours, we could easily mistake this application logo to be some sort of rubbish childrens TV show, but not I – I am too savvy for such things. But anyway, lets see what this baby can do.
What is Google Chrome Browser?
It’s Googles very own web browser, and is already more popular than Apple’s Safari browser (which has been around for considerably longer), and before you cynics say that well it would be because Safari is just for Mac stuff, your wrong! It’s for Windows too, and every man and he’s dog has an iPhone with the Safari browser too, so there.
Google Chrome is / and will soon be released as an operating system of its own, which Google in their wisdom have also decided to call ‘Chrome OS’ adding the the confusion that they are the same thing (Chrome OS is basically a operating system which is only good for the web, so basically rubbish, but that is another article I think).
Features of Google Chrome Browser
Well there are some pretty cool things which I like.
Chrome is Open Source
I think that this was a wise move on Googles part, contributing to the open source community with an open source browser also eliminates suspicions of the Google monster is ‘watching you’, and I’m sure everyone who is much smarter than me has already gone over the code with a fine tooth comb.
Open source means the community will get involved to develop, improve and generally look after the development of this browser, just like our dear old friend Firefox.
Chrome Operates Independent Tabs
Because of some idiots, we often have visited websites, web pages which have caused the browser to crash. Well thanks to each tab in Chrome being independent from each other, now you can just crash a single tab instead of all your tabs, handy huh? Yes it is.
Incognito Mode
Porn Mode… (where Internet Explorer 8 got the idea from)
Memory & Resources are very low
Safari is a memory hog, Firefox is a memory hog, Internet Explorer is crap. Chrome does not memory hog. Infact its the most efficient speediest browser available.
Theres a whole host of other features, but I won’t go into them because Google Chrome has already been out for Windows for some time so none of this is news to you unless you run a Mac, and maybe live in a cave.
Rubbish Stuff
Yeah there are rubbish things, like I can’t find any plugins for Mac, and I was informed that plugins are not available for the Mac version yet…
Google Mail didn’t work the first few times I tried to load it up. Ironic seeing it is Google’s mail in it’s own browser…
I think Google is watching me… I feel it, that’s what put me off Google Chrome on windows.
