They did firefox because firefox has a built in google search, and improves their searcher volume, and adsense obviously to get more people showing their ads. Once they feel they have got enough from it, they cut it dead, ignoring the fact that some people rely on adsense heavily for their income. Luckily that isn't the case for Wuup, but is the case for other people I know. As for what you say about froogle, and local business referrals your right. It's the same as the video ad units, they obviously didn't see an instant return, and stopped it. They need to give it time, and perhaps look to improve things their end. But I also think related to the video units, that Google is set to make a $400,000,000 loss this year on youtube, as they are failing to monetize it. This same thing happened with referral ads, Froogle, and with the local business referral representatives. Google is still trying to get local small businesses to sign up, but they're no longer willing to pay anybody to help the process along ...
