Indie Reviews: 2D Boy’s World of Goo

When you think of gaming in general what games pop into mind? You may think off games like Halo, GTA, Tomb Raider, or any other generic mainstream game (of which there has been a lot of releases lately). This is why i love Steam and its support of indipendent developers (indie), in this case, 2D BOY and they’re title World of Goo.

World of Goo is a unique construction/puzzle game mixed with awesome physics and lush 2D graphics. The goal is to save as many goo balls as possible by building a structure towards a pipe, using the goo balls as a construction tool,  collecting more goo balls as you go. When you reach the pipe the unused goo balls will get sucked in, adding to your end score.

The gameplay evolves as you go, with more advanced structures and puzzles as you progress through each of the 5 worlds. Each level is different with hugly diverse environments and obsticals to overcome. The visuals are always stunning and evolving, nothing seems out-of-place or too insane. The game may prove to be quite short to some advanced players, World of Goo isnt a game to play constantly all day otherwise you could find your experience over all too quick. World of Goo is a casual game after all.

Aside from the cool game play and awesome visuals, World of Goo has a nice story to follow along to. There aren’t any main characters but there is a mysterious background character called “the sign painter” who acts as both tutorial narrator and story teller. The sign painter takes form as signs dotted about the levels (duh)  filled with some wonderfull dialogue. The Goo balls themselves should be regarded as the main characters of World of Goo.

Overall the game is both totally addictive and satisfying, you can pick it up at anytime and play a few levels (a great game to play if your bored at work).

I recommend this game to anyone looking for something casual to play, when they are not playing anything evil like EA games or something mainstream like Halo.

So what are you waiting for? go buy World of Goo! also you can buy on steam!
