Hey chaps,
As you may have read recently, I bought a new iPod Touch 32GB 3G with the intention of jailbreaking it and buzzing through the directory of tweaks, mods and general unwanted naughtiness on Apple’s gadgetry.
However, hours before the said iPod Touch 3g arrived, a brief skip through a Google search for jailbreaking methods gave an unpromisingly worrying message:
Jailbreaking 3g stuff? Can’t do it. Developers are waiting for iPhone OS 4.0 – Oh dear.
The problem is finding an ‘untethered’ way to jailbreak. This basically means that current ways to jailbreak 3g devices is by having to constantly re-jailbreak your device every time you reboot.
But fear not! Developers Comex have busted open the latest firmware, which I believe can also work on any firmware to date. Go wherever you want with your extra bells and whistles and brag to your friends and such. And on top of that, it’s extremely easy to do.
Before you jailbreak, you must make sure to note that:
Your device is activated
Your device cannot be stuck at ‘Connect to iTunes’
Your device cannot be stuck on ‘Emergency Call’
This jailbreak works with version 9 and 9.1.1 of iTunes
If you’re currently using tethered jailbreak methods, you have to restore via iTunes in order to use Spirit.
Do NOT upgrade if you unlocked your iPhone 3G or 3GS – there are workarounds on the site coming up in the article.
The iPad has been reported as acting up slightly. It may be best to wait for a few updates and bookmarking their site.

OK onwards…
Go grab the jailbreak! It’s tucked away at: http://www.spiritjb.com/ – Choose your OS (how lovely they are) – The icon for the .exe looks like a bomb from Metroid. Just wanted to say that.
Install iTunes version 9 or higher if you don’t already have it.
Connect your device
Fire up Spirit from your download location.
Hit ‘Jailbreak’
Wait a minimal amount of time
Eventually you’ll see ‘Jailbreak succeeded!’ and your device will reboot, re-emerging with a shiny new Cydia icon. You get on there and push your device to its full capabilities!
Then you can…
Die horribly in MK4 via the N64iPhone emulator (MK4 RUNS REAL NICE!)
Emulate your device as a USB drive – works perfectly
Have utter control over the system – you can block in-app ads with the firewall app. Jailbreak only ;D
Into ROM hacks? They work well too. Here’s Mario Picross 2 on gb4iPhone.
Other stuff? OK. Recording your screen for tutorials, organising apps into categories. Spoofing the device as a wifi router or wifi card, faking your location, music controls via a WiiMote, Offline maps and of course, the superb ability to background ANYTHING.
