PC 100% Processor Spike & Left 4 Dead

Recently as you know, I have been playing the only good game in existence, Left 4 Dead. It’s fun, but after just over a month of playing it I started to get terrible processor spikes. Game Lag, not internet lag. The game was lagging up. After looking through various forums, people complaining of similar things, I almost gave up home on running the game properly again. Then I pronounced myself Deaf. For some reason I’d been ignoring the high fan speeds of my pc… then it hit me! My pc is overheating, as I’ve proudly neglected my PC for over a year, never cleaning it.

I quickly installed Everest, looked at my temperatures.

GPU : 80 degrees
CPU: 53 degrees (not toooo bad, but it was idle)

Then my diagnosis was right. I shut down the pc, and unplugged our a shit load of dust with my fingers from my nvidia 8800 GTX and AMD heatsink and fan.  I then pulled out the hoover and attacked the pc with sucking power!

Afterwards, I started everest and looked at the temperatures.

GPU: 47 degrees (idle)
CPU: 37 degrees (idle)

much better, well within operational perameters.

The morale of this story, don’t neglect your pc like me… it’s too late for me to change, see you next year!
