Hiya Alan,

I learnt you were previously on a contract phone on three with the N96 - I've got the same problem with my N95 and hate its guts: running slow on response and the usual annoying crashes, I'm on a three contract but reading through, are you able to use the G1 phone with a 3 Sim still? if yes can u send me the 3, 3MMS and GPRS settings if u have emm.. would be grateful. I'm getting a second hand (nearly new) G1 so just needed to be sure it does work on 3 before I buy one, also does your 3G work?

Cheers,

That sucks Paul, but I would suggested getting an unlocked one like me, steering clear of T-Mobile isn't a bad idea either

What the hell is going on.. I have been told by T-Mobile that they have stopped production on the White G1..I'm gutted, in fact I wont be moving to T-Mobile or get the G1 I wanted so bad, and tried to get all week.
I will buy a second hand WHITE G1 and have it unlocked and go to O2 for spite.. At least I can show how pissed off I am...No White indeed..disgusted.

I just got my G1 last week and for the most part I love it, the only thing that I can think of right now that I do not like about it is the keyboard, its like the buttons are not tall enough or something.

Hi Joel, thanks

1) Reliablity / responsiveness - some of the apps from the app market do crash, but you have a force close option like in mac osx. But users comment on all the apps, so you can see a gooden easily. Battery life is great if you set up toggles to turn off wifi, bluetooth, i have my right desktop with all my toggles - very easy to sort. I also have a battery program on there, which applies profile, it really extended my battery life. When the phone is on stand by, over night etc, it barely uses 1 % of life.

2/3) Google maps works better than the iphone! you can use street view with the built in compass and its like holding up a mini window to that world, mind blowing and great fun. My location works very well. Its very fluid and fast. There is not a sat nav program YET but i know there several in development and going to be released soon. One of which i believe is free. Until then there is the google maps text directions with GPS.

4) you can get ssh + telnet.

5) Tons of RSS, take your pick!

Hope this helps,

Hi Alan,
Great review. I am actually tempted seeing as my Blackberry contract is up for review soon.

iPhone is a no-no for me as I demand a keyboard. Am a big Google apps user so this make sense to me.

Can I ask about:
1)Reliability/responsivness/battery life ?

2) Google maps work ok?

3) Is there a voice/turn based satnav app. Google maps on the BB is great but if driving I need voice directions.

4) By telnet I assume this also does SSH?

5) RSS client?
