What Makes Crysis Suck: Flaws & Glitches
Overall, I love Crysis, its a brilliant game, however its FAR from perfect. The game comes with a great story, brilliant graphics, great physics, great characters. But still, theres plenty which does suck.
The reason I thought I’d write about this, is simply as we’ve recently had the release of Crysis Warhead - and yup I’ve got it & completed it. I would love for that to sound cocky, but seeing as it only takes 5 hours to complete on the hardest difficulty ‘delta’ - I can’t really say it does. So lets start this critic. READY! GO!
TOO EASY
Christ, I think a baby on meth could complete this game on ‘delta’, it’s so damn easy. First of all lets start by saying in the old crysis, the AI was mindless, and stupid. I completed that one too on ‘delta’ first time round. The AI, don’t seem to notice rustling trees, and seem to COMPLETELY loose their barings as to where you are, when you cloak. Infact cloak seems to be the whole problem as to why the game is so easy. Really all you need to do, is, run along cloaked, uncloak in a bush, recharge & repeat. It sounds like a recipe. The aliens are a little harder, mainly because they are faster, and it does take countless bullets to kill them, but its nothing that the cloaking recipe cant help.
CLOAK IS TOO GOOD / BAD
Ok the title to this is a little confusing. In both ‘Crysis’ & ‘Crysis Warhead’, you can kill NK’s by standing on the spot, putting your gun on single shot & uncloaking, one shot to the head, then cloaking again. Although your uncloaked for a second, and 20 Noth Koreans can see you, they still don’t fire at you, or know where you are. It’s really annoying - and makes the game soooooo, so easy.
Ok next reason why cloak is bad, is in the original crysis multiplayer, due to a great purple outline, you may as well not bother to cloak. People can see you, pretty much just as well, so don’t bother - though I must admit, the cloak is far far better in Crysis Wars, especially on the new maps.
Why do you have a shadow when you are cloaked, its stupid & very annoying. Also this was not fixed in Crysis Warhead, or Crysis Wars. No…no, no, no & no! It’s just stupid…
DIRECT X 9 Vs DIRECT X 10
Why make it so only certain settings can be accessed in DX10, when we all know tha DX9 can handle most of them anyway. It’s just trying to make us upgrade to vista, which sucks for gaming. Please read our vista review which does mention that Vista sucks for gaming, and certainly ruins crysis.
Though, I do admit they have optimised the game in Crysis Warhead, it runs a lot smoother, but improvements could be made.
POOR DIALOGUE
Firstly, if you don’t know what I am talking about. Go download the Crysis Warhead Trailer, it’s available in many places, get it from steam if you want an easy way. Psycho sounds as wooden as a stick. Especially the phrase:
“I’m coming for you”
Christ, my cheese and bacon toasty had more charisma - although this poor dialogue was partly because the trailer editors decided to put a clip of audio COMPLETELY out of context to what was happening in the trailer. There are varios other cheesy lines, but overall, pretty naff. The same goes for the wooden lines by others characters in the single players of both Crysis and Crysis Warhead.
MAXIMUM OUT OF ENERGY
Although your suit is mega cool. What’s funny is the most useless ability you have. Maximum speed. You can hardly get any distance on this. So what is the point? So if you try and repeat anything you see in the trailers. Like speeding up to them and hitting them with maximum strength. What would happen in reality. You would speed up to them, run out of energy, and get shot to death as you don’t have maximum armour, because of being out of energy. Pointless, I hardly use it, and when I do, its when I know there are no enemies about, and it saves time - One extra note is, if you maximum speed into a car, it kills you. Why???
POINTLESS WEAPON OF THE DAY
What is the point of the tranq? Yes it works, it knocks them out, but there are no useful situations for this. So why?? I do use it, but only because its funny to try and knock out 5 or 6 guys, switching between the FYI and the scar because of the INSANE reload time, why is it so high?
VEHICLE PHYICS INCLUDING MULTIPLAYER
Ok so we got cars, tanks, helicopters, the VTOL, etc. They all suck, they all drive like dogs, and as you know, dogs are not vehicles, they are loveable creatures, so yes, they all look like lovely vehicle models. Cars seem only to turn corners if you basically stop moving, and then edge slowly forward. Helicopters are ok as long as you want to go up, and only up.
Ok in multiplayer, the maps are all rigid. I mean that if you drive a car into a small hedge, it will damage it, stop it dead, damn it’s just is hard as nails, ‘over-watering’ I blame. No seriously, any small metal railing will stop a tank, tanks are also stopped by trees, or a scary looking metal post.
CHEATS IN MULTIPLAYER
Don’t even bother to play in a non-punkbuster server, they all cheat, and its really really annoying, Wow it proves you can cheat, I hope when you next mow your lawns, you turn over your lawnmower, fall over, turn it on, and multilate yourselfs, if you survive, let that be a bonus…morons!
Ok I will stop there. Now I have told you what will let you down, go buy both games. In the UK, get them on steam, its a lot cheaper!

“vista sucks for gaming” generalisation in progress
Random rants are good tho
after the seeing the reduction in FPS for crysis in vista in the test bill did, i think its a fair assumption, I agree that FPS arent everything however, vista should make peformance better, NOT WORSE, so i think its a fair generalisation to make
Generalising with only 1 game tested, tho i will see shortly how gowpc runs “better” or “worse” in xp then it does in Vista.
not that you knew, but more than one game was tested, but yes, do let us know how you get on, I’ll be intereted to see which is better, I assume the test will be with the same hardware? if not the same pc?
yes with the exact same hardware, everything updated and patched. Why did i not know about these other tests?

vista will eat more system resources, that is true, sadly. Tho who knows, they may make it more friendly towards games. Currently games will run better in xp then in vista, but when they start to become more and more reliant on dx10 then vista will more then likely be updated to use less “stuff” when games are running. as thats its current problem, all the shiny bits added to it are slowing it down. turn them all off to gain increase if you really want too
besides the dip in fps, what makes vista worse for gaming on? it’s wireless abilities are a lot stronger then XP’s which is very handy for laptops and w/lan’ing. Both xp and vista support quad core cpus, both support nearly all current hardware.

I don’t think the dialog is that bad when you hear it in context (and not in a badly edited trailer) it makes sense. Though I’m just glad that us Brits finally have a spot in an American (targeted) game (and not as the evil guy!).

The cloak is not as bad as you make it sound. If you’re lazy and dont uncloak before firing, you lose all your suit’s energy and the ability to cloak. I dont think that everyone will agree with you that taking out 15 koreans using the cloak-uncloak-single shot-recloak technique is “too easy”.
Also, you need to know if you have enough energy to make it to that next bush before your cloak diminishes, so its all strategy..
And of course you’ll have a shadow when cloaked. Light isnt passing through your body like a piece of glass; its being refracted to give the illusion that nothing’s there. There will still be a shadow….
Hi dark, thanks for your comment, perahps not everyone would find it easy, i’m just saying from my experience that it is. Though the cloak/uncloak technique does WORK, and you don’t loose all your energy, because you uncloak when you fire, and cloak again after. The PROBLEM is that the koreans dont see you uncloak… and thats the silly part. I guess I see your point about the cloak, after a empty glass of water still casts a shadow.
